Technical Specifications

  • Low coefficient of lineal thermal expansion and contraction
  • Lengths up to 16 feet
  • Installation at temperatures below freezing is not recommended
  • If installed at temperatures less than 50° gap ends to allow for thermal expansion
  • A surface temperature increase from 75° to 115° could cause the material to expand slightly greater than 1/16" over 12' due to thermoplastic composition
  • Not recommended for beams, joists, structural spanning or primary load bearing members
  • Not recommended to exceed 16" centers on decking spans. Improper spanning will automatically void warranty

Working With Moisture Shield Material

  • Cutting & Drilling
    • Carbide saw blades, router bits, and drill bits are recommended
    • Thin blades of less than 20 teeth wear longer and do not heat up as easily
    • Safety glasses or goggles are recommended when cutting or drilling
  • Fastening & Nailing
    • #16d hot dipped galvanized casing nails work well
    • More dense than wood, requires more force to nail
    • Air nail with 16d spiral shank galvanized nails with slightly higher air pressure
    • Maze small head spiral shank nails #s-2591-s work well
    • Galvanized or stainless steel deck screws offer superior fastening and holding power
  • Sanding or Planing
    • Plastic type sanding belts are recommended
    • Carbide blades are recommended
    • A wood rasp or Stanley Surform rasp works well for smoothing
  • Painting & Gluing
    • Weathers to a driftwood silver color without stains or paints
    • Stains and paints will adhere well after natural weathering or flame treating of the surface
    • Can be glued with many glues such as Corilla premium Glue, PPG's Trim-bond HC4790 contact adhesive, or similar brands
    • Composed of cedar fibers which are encapsulated in plastic
    • Do not use glues such as methyl ethyl ketone which are harmful to plastic
