Mainframe Virtual Tape and Software

Get more out of your mainframe environment by combining EMC storage arrays with leading partner technology to store and manage mainframe data on disk.

Bus-Tech

The Mainframe Data Library (MDL) is a family of high-performance virtual tape controllers that use EMC storage platforms to store and retrieve data. Each model produces a scalable solution that reduces mainframe tape risks and costs while protecting customers' investments in tape applications.

The MDL 1000 and 2000 attach to zSeries mainframe FICON/ESCON channels and use standard Gigabit Ethernet IP/Fibre Channel to attach to storage arrays.

The MDL 4000 and 6000 provide the same features and benefits as 1000 and 2000, while simplifying the procurement and deployment of a complete tape solution. Packaging includes a 19-inch 24U rack with a minimum/maximum configuration of two to six MAS nodes.

The MDL enables enterprise data centers to:

  • Lower tape costs.
  • Improve end-user service levels.
  • Optimize disaster recovery procedures.
  • Gain compliant storage in tape environments.

Rocket Software

Rocket System Backup and Recovery (RBR) for DB2 on z/OS allows you to back up, restore, and recover entire DB2 subsystems on EMC Symmetrix. RBR uses TimeFinder® business continuance volume (BCV) device technology or full volume Snap to provide a backup of DB2 data and logs.

RBR uses EMC’s Enginuity® Consistency Assist (ECA) to produce a consistent backup of DB2 without taking it offline. RBR provides one product that seamlessly integrates backup, restore, and recovery of DB2 systems and objects with the EMC Symmetrix family of networked storage system and software for a single, complete backup solution.
