Brian K.
Senior Hardware Engineer
Brian is a new member of the EMC team. He builds disk array enclosures—one of the main components of our information storage hardware.
Because this component is part of so many EMC products, Brian and his team have to work efficiently. To add to the pressure, these products are in high demand. He has wide range of product knowledge, so he can assess how the disk array enclosure operates in each unit. "It’s technically very challenging," he says.
Why Brian joined EMC
Before EMC, Brian worked at Mac Storage Industry as a hardware engineer. When another company acquired it, Brian followed his instincts and came to EMC. "It was a great opportunity because the company has a reputation for taking risks in their product development," he says.
Brian majored in electrical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and thinks that EMC's main differentiator is the potential for growth. By working in various product development groups, Brian is always learning new skills. There’s also a large opportunity for lateral career moves, since EMC avidly promotes internally. People often stay with us for a majority of their careers.
For now, Brian is happy right where he is. "I’m on a team with the hardest-working group of people that I’ve ever been with, and very excited to be a part of future projects," he says.
Want to work with Brian as a hardware engineer?
You’ll need broad cross-platform knowledge of information storage hardware. Most of the time, you’ll be working in a team environment, with several hardware products rolling out at different times. So you’ll need to be able to switch gears quickly—working on multiple projects.
